Travel skincare/makeup — off to Mozambique!

So, thanks to a public holiday popping up on Tuesday, I’ve been lucky enough to take a day’s leave on Monday too, and am going to Mozambique for a long weekend with a big group of friends!  We were actually there in March, and had such an amazing time that we booked another weekend there within a week of being home.  I’m looking forward to sun, sea, sand and some RnR’s at Fernandos (us girlies stick with the slushy versions there, as their regular ones are INSANE — take a look here to see why!)

I thought I’d do a quick post on the toiletries/makeup that I’ll be taking with me to Mozam.  I’m a firm believer in decanting products to take with – this way I can take more products with me, and still not be taking a whole trailer along just for my luggage.

Sunscreen is clearly a must, and I’ll be taking Bioderma Photoderm Max SPF50+ for my face and Nivea Sun Moisturising Sun Spray SPF20 for my body.  The Bioderma is perfect for sensitive skin like mine, and it doesn’t leave your face looking or feeling greasy or sticky, while the Nivea protects and prevents your skin from becoming dry.  The only lip balm I’m taking along is also a lip sunscreen – the Piz Buin Sun Lipstick SPF30.

I’ll be taking along a regular deodorant – Dove Invisible Dry deo spray – and a regular body lotion – Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe – this is in the smaller size as well, and I’m taking this particular one with as the aloe is great as an aftersun product, plus it sinks in nicely so I don’t feel sticky in the heat.  I’ve also decanted one of my perfumes into a little travel atomizer – I have 4 of these so I can have different perfumes with me and not cart around a full-size bottle.  I chose to take Tommy Hilfiger Peach Blossom.

As far as skincare goes, I’ll be taking a few more products than I usually would as my skin has been battling with the seasonal changes and I’m working hard at keeping it calm and hydrated.  I’m packing the Avene Thermal Water Spray as it soothes and calms red, irritated skin, as well as a little bottle of Lush Eau Roma Water (decanted) – a blend of lavender and rose water to use as a toner that hydrates and calms skin.  I have a deluxe travel size tube of the Clarins Hydraquench cream for normal to dry skin that I received as part of the latest Clarins gift – it usually comes in a glass jar which isn’t travel friendly at all.  I’m taking along a serum (decanted) – IQ Dermaquench Renewing Serum – as well as a facial oil – TBS Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil – just to keep my skin refreshed and hydrated overnight, after all the goodness that the sun and sea will be taking out of it.  For cleanser I’m taking TBS Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter, which is just a lot more travel friendly than their Camomile Silky Cleansing oil, and my absolute favourite (decanted) Bioderma Sensibio H2O.  I’ve also packed some cotton rounds to use with the Bioderma.

For shower gel I’m taking along my deluxe travel size Clarins Tonic Bath and Shower concentrate that I got at the same time as my Hydraquench.  I’ve popped a new bath sponge in to use with the shower gel, and I’m taking my Gillette Venus razor with a new blade – can’t be swimming in the sea with shaving nicks from a dull blade!

For my hair I’m taking along decanted shampoo and conditioner – no point taking along the full size bottles/tubes for 3 nights.  I just bought the latest Retailbox SecretBox, which contains goodies for dry/damaged hair – I highlight my hair and so these will be great to fix up any damage from the colouring, as well as protect it from the sun.  The Schwarzkopf Barbary Fig Oil Restorative Shampoo and leave in Conditioning Milk are both amazing and smell DELICIOUS!  While I did also get the treatment oil from the same range, I’ll be taking along a sample size of the Moroccanoil Light treatment oil that I received in a previous SecretBox (SERIOUSLY try these boxes out if you can – they aren’t a monthly subscription one, instead a once off and they tell you what hair type the box is for before you purchase it, so you will definitely be getting something good!).  As silly as it sounds, I’ll be taking a GHD travel hair dryer with too, as well as a waving iron (it creates beachy waves as opposed to tight curls), as this prevents my hair going completely crazy and frizzy, and keeps it smooth yet not overdone.  So I’ll be popping a decanted bottle of heat protectant into my toiletries as well – the Goldwell Styling Milk.  I’m taking my Tangle Teezer as my hairbrush, and of course a dry shampoo – Batiste Tropical is PERFECT for a beach holiday.

Obviously on a beach holiday I’m not going to be wearing a full face of makeup – just the basics during the day and a little extra at night.  I’m taking along a primer for the evenings – the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating primer is lovely – it helps makeup to stay put but provides a splash of hydration too.  During the day I’ll be wearing Sorbet BB cream in Light with a little bit of waterproof mascara – Bourjois Volume 1 second Waterproof mascara.  Only in the evenings I’ll add a bit more makeup.  Concealer – Catrice Camouflage Cream in light beige, setting powder – Catrice Prime & Fine mattifying waterproof powder, blush – Bourjois Pot Blush in Rose Frisson, a light shimmery bronzer – Catrice Luminizing Bronzer C01 shimmer shade (unfortunately this was one of their limited edition items, so you can’t buy it anymore), for eyes – MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork, Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks in Bluffing and Bad Girl Bronze, Rimmel Exaggerate Auto Waterproof eyedefiner in Rich Brown, the Bourjois mascara, and my NYX Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake – a nudey-pink gloss.  I most definitely won’t wear ALL of these products at once, but a girl needs some choices!  All of these are stay fast formulas so that no matter how hot it is, my makeup WON’T BUDGE.

I know this sounds like a lot of stuff, but most of it is decanted or in travel size bottles, and I hate feeling like I’ve left something behind!

Anyway, I have to be up at 2am tomorrow morning for the trip.  Someone’s going to have to provide me with tea or it will be a long and grumpy drive there 😉

Spread the love
