Laser hair removal and scar removal

Laser hair removal – a phrase that makes many people quiver in their boots.  There are so many methods of hair removal out there, and so many of them are painful!  I’ve waxed, shaved, threaded, and tried IPL, and had yet to find something that really really works, yet didn’t cause me pain, ingrown hairs or irritation.

I had been going for IPL for just over a year, and while the area in question had definitely improved (the hair was softer and finer, much sparser, and any scarring had lessened or even disappeared), the hair hadn’t ‘disappeared’ as I’d hoped.  I do understand that everybody reacts differently, and that I couldn’t expect for my hair to just stop growing after one treatment, but I expected more of a difference.  The only reason I put up with it, was that it literally lasted about a minute, and sure while it was painful, I could deal with it for that amount of time.  I eventually stopped the treatments and went back to waxing, as I figured it would be cheaper, and you’re only allowed to shave when having the IPL, which I hated.

A couple of months ago I heard about 360 Laser Image, a small, at-home salon based in Hillcrest, that offers laser hair removal, instant wrinkle reduction, scar removal, acne clearing, skin rejuvenation, body sculpting, area-targeted slimming, cellulite reduction and all over body tightening.  These are done using Diode lasers, and are 100% PAIN FREE!

Now, I know you’re thinking that nothing that really works is pain free, it takes pain to be beautiful blah blah blah.  I was sceptical myself, and I don’t have a high tolerance for pain at all.  In fact, I’m something of a wuss when it comes to anything that hurts, and have been known to cry at a small cut on my finger – yes, I’m 29 years old, and it was a small cut, but it HURTS, ok?!

So with a fair amount of trepidation, I booked an appointment with Talita, who owns 360 Laser Image, and went for my first session.  With these treatments you also need to shave beforehand, as the laser needs to find the root of the hair in order to ‘kill’ it.

The laser for hair removal

The whole hair removal treatment lasted between 15 and 25min, and really was pain free – the laser feels ice cold on your skin, instead of hot and painful like the IPL treatment.  Also – with IPL, the laser is lifted and held down, lifted and held down, allowing pulses to penetrate the hair, while the Diode laser has in-motion technology, and glides across your skin instead.

I’ve now had 2 hair removal treatments, and the difference I’ve seen after these is far better than over a year of IPL treatments.  I reckon I’ll need another 2 maximum, and my hair will be gone for good!  Such a thrilling prospect.

I’ve also recently been trying the scar removal treatments, as I had a breast reduction a number of years ago, and the scars that this operation leaves are quite large.  My skin scars horribly as well in general, so scars always take so much longer to heal properly on me.

A different machine is used for this process, and Talita also uses a derma roller on your skin prior to the laser – used with a blend of oils, the derma roller forces your body to go into overdrive to repair that section of skin, as tiny needles puncture the area.  This part was mildly sore, but not unbearable, as the oils help to numb the skin slightly.  The first stroke is sore, but after that your skin gets used to the feeling, and it just feels itchy.

After the derma roller, more oils are applied – Talita used the oil for mature skin, to help the skin in the repair process.  Then it was laser time!  This is also a Diode laser, and feels icy cold to the touch.  The laser speeds up the skin repair process and recovery, so that you can see in improvement in a shorter amount of time.  All in all the treatment lasts between 45min to an hour.

I’ve been for around 4 sessions so far for the scar removal, and the difference in the appearance of my scars is drastic.  I’ll spare you the photo evidence (hahaha!), so you’ll just have to trust me on this one, but the scars have gone from pink and obvious, to nearly completely gone.  I’m seriously impressed!  This treatment could also work on stretchmarks, but I’m not entirely sure if it can completely remove them, however it could fade them significantly.

I’ll keep you updated on my progress with both the hair and scar removal, but if you’d like to book an appointment, or even just ask some questions, Talita is very friendly and knowledgeable on the machines and the process.  You can give her a call on 0824614975 or check out her Facebook page and give it a like (I linked it at the top, but here is the link again).

Not Another Poppie has also tried out the Diode laser hair removal, so check out her post on it if you’d like another opinion – here.

Hi, did you ever post an update?

Hi there Carryn – no I did not, as I did not continue after 3 treatments. While they definitely work, they are pricey, and circumstances changed.

I do plan on finishing the treatments though – even after a good few years I have to say that the hair that was killed hasn’t grown back, I have half the hair I had before and it’s still much softer, even with no further treatments. I think another 2 or 3 treatments would get rid of it for good!

Scar-wise, I didn’t see much change at all if I’m honest.
