Wow – my last Currently post was three months ago! I had no idea that it had been so long since I’d done an update. However, this way you’ll find a nice new set of things I’ve currently been obsessed with.
When this post goes live, I’ll just have been in the Western Cape on holiday. We flew down on Sunday 23 September and we were there for a whole week. When your full-time day job is in transport like mine and Hubs, you realise that often even finding a weekend to take off is a luxury. A whole week is basically unheard of. The prompt for such a spoilicious holiday was my sister-in-law’s wedding being on the 29 September in Hermanus, so we decided to really just take some extra time off to enjoy and spend time with family – and a little time just for us!
Hubs and I spent Heritage Day with my sister, and we took the Purple Line on the Franschhoek Wine Tram – an absolute must-do, and something I’ll be doing a whole post on at a later stage. Keep your eyes peeled for that one, as it’s going to be a goodie!
In the meantime, let’s get this post started, shall we?
One of the ladies who works in my office brought this 1.5 litre bottle in to work one day, as she knew I’d been trying out different kombucha teas. It’s around R30 from the Manolis Munchies store in Hillcrest, but there is also an email address on the bottle – email@example.com
I’ve been battling to find a kombucha that works with my fussy taste buds, and the only one so far has been Happy Culture. It’s delicious, particularly the Blueberry & Basil flavour, but at R30 a pop for a small bottle it can be quite pricey when you want to drink them a couple of times a week. This is the same price for a bigger bottle, and it tastes just like sparkling fruit cocktail juice. It’s not as tangy or fermented tasting as the others I’ve tried. It’s very very refreshing.
After seeing Simone from An Ordinary Gal and Rachel from Top Knotch raving about this gel-cream, I knew I had to have it. You already know how I adore Clinique Moisture Surge, and I’ve loved the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream as well. It’s a formula that works for my skin and provides it with the hydration I need, and it’s definitely the one I’m currently reaching for the most.
What I adore most about the Elizabeth Arden Hydragel is that it’s super hydrating and yet so light on the skin. It’s slightly runnier than previous gel creams, so a little bit goes a long way as it spreads so beautifully. While I will NEVER forsake my beloved Moisture Surge (truly a miracle product), I’m thoroughly enjoying the Elizabeth Arden Hydragel, and it’s definitely a repurchase. For those ladies on a bit more of a budget, it’s closer to the price of the Neutrogena in terms of R/ml, so definitely something to look into.
I am a Harry Potter nut, so it goes without saying that I loved Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. While the second instalment hasn’t hit theatres yet, I’m so excited for it that I just it’s the only movie on my radar right now!
Plus, not only is it packed with excitement, magic and amazing creatures – it has a fabulous cast.

I’ve always been intrigued by lip stains – a product that goes on gorgeous, and leaves your lips tinted so that no touch ups are necessary? Hell yes!
I’ve been hearing a lot about the new Clarins Water Lip Stains, so when I saw them on a Clarins stand in Foschini the other day, I swatched them all. The shades go from the top to the bottom of this swatch – 01 Rose Water, 02 Orange Water, 03 Red Water and 04 Violet Water. Now, I would quite classify that last one as violet – it’s more of a deep berry that is delicious, and definitely the one I’m drawn to the most.
I knew these were ‘stains’ but I didn’t really give them much thought after I’d swatched. They applied glossy and pigmented, in my opinion like a more pigmented version of their Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. They’re glossy and oily and feel nourishing but pack so much punch in the colour department.
After half an hour I took a wet wipe to wipe away the swatches, as I was going into MAC and needed space… only to find stains. Proper, hardcore stains. Like I’d actually had a tattoo of swatches (not actually a bad idea, it could look quite pretty if done well).
I think these are SO ideal for summer. You can slick on the gorgeous lip stain (don’t let the gloss smear, or you’re in trouble) and after a few hours on the beach or by the pool, you’re left with a beautiful stain that will last all day long.
I plan on picking up the Violet Water and possibly the Rose Water too.
I can’t say that there is any one specific thing that I’ve been drinking or snacking on lately. However we have just come home from a fabulous trip to the Cape. I swear, both Hubs and I gained several kg’s in just a week there, and we sipped on so much wine and nibbled on many an excellent cheeseboard. So I guess you could so I’ve been obsessed with the two of those things – wine and cheese!
We also had quite possibly the best pizzas of our lives at a fantastic restaurant in Hermanus called Embers. They’re made in a wood-fire oven and are super thin, packed with delicious toppings. While all of the combinations of toppings are super tasty, the best is definitely the Pizza Napoli, with a tomato base, buffalo-style mozzarella and fresh chopped basil.
I lusted after this palette the second I heard about it. Just like everyone else!
Since getting my little paws on it, I’ve created 4 different looks (and possibly more by the time this post goes live). It is so incredibly versatile, and you can create pretty much anything with it. Everyday neutral, soft bridal, bright colours or a deep smokey eye.
This girl is on fire! Kerry is a blogger and Instagrammer who focuses on body positivity and self love. She is one of the most inspiring people I follow, and truly is sunshine on a rainy day personified.
I was lucky enough to meet this gorgeous lady at the #KZNMEETUP in August and she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
If you have daughters, you need to let them read some of her posts. She teaches us ladies all about loving yourself the way you were made, regardless of what society tries to insist you should be. She’s real and honest and lets us know that sometimes you’re allowed to have off days and be a bit ‘meh’.
