Yemaya Hair & Beauty, King Shaka International Airport

Who else loves to pamper themselves?  I mean… the question should be more along the lines of who DOESN’T love a good pamper!  Even in winter, I make sure my toes are on top form and not because they’ll be on display – because it makes me FEEL good.  So, to ensure that my feet are kept soft, smooth and toenails polished, I popped into Yemaya Hair & Beauty at King Shaka International Airport.

What I adore about Yemaya is that they focus on affordable luxury on the go.  They use fabulous quality brands, and will not compromise on this.  Treatments are designed to be as quick and on the go, or as luxe and lengthy as you have time for, ranging from express Dermalogica skin treatments that are 10 minutes long and cost R99, to a full head of highlights starting from R730, and to the 3-hour spa package ‘Perfect Spoil’ that includes a nourishing facial, full manicure and pedicure for R950.  The salon offers facials, body treatments, manicures, pedicures, gel polish and acrylic, hair colouring and treatments, and even different grooming treatments that cater specifically to men.

Yemaya is also child-friendly, and your children can also enjoy these services too – forgotten to get your little one’s hair trimmed before a holiday, or on the way back to school after a trip?  No worries!  Want to get a mom and daughter mani/pedi?  Yemaya caters for all of this and more!  It’s also a fab spot to meet a friend for a quick pedicure together before one (or both) of you jet off somewhere – heck, even if you’re not using the airport, their salon is perfect for a girly pamper and catch up.

Yemaya Hair & Beauty have 2 stores at King Shaka International – one within the boarding gates, for you to indulge in a quick treatment pre-flight, and another opposite the Woolworths and next to the domestic arrivals gate.  Whether you’re waiting to fetch a friend or family member, arriving home from a business trip or arriving on your way to a cruise with a couple of hours before your  transfer, you can be sure that any need for treatments you haven’t had time to indulge in before your trip will be satisfied.

I was so impressed by the range of treatments on offer at Yemaya, as well as the incredible brands they use.  Footlogix, Kinetics, Dermalogica, RegimA, Moroccanoil, Label M, Wella, Opi, Elim, Blue Beards,  Cirepil by Perrin Rigor, and other amazing brands.  They work with such fabulous quality!  I was also very intrigued by the brand Luma – a range of cosmetics that use crushed pearl for radiance.  I played around with some of the highlighter products and would LOVE to actually buy some of them to play with at home, as they’re beautiful.

The best part of this visit was that I was treated to a Full Pedicure with gel polish application, using the Kinetics gel polish (R390).  I usually have just a gel polish application done on my toes, and maintain my feet myself at home, so whenever I have a full pedicure it’s a real treat.  And I have to say – my lovely therapist was so thorough and SO gentle!  My pedicure was superb, and my feet were buffed, polished and massaged to perfection.  Even the cuticle cleanup and removal was so gentle I didn’t even feel a thing.

I had never tried any of the Kinetics range before this day, and opted for a beautiful shade that is not my usual go-to – a dark blue-grey called Bedouin Taxi – and a matte topcoat, something I’d also never tried.  The grey shade is such a stunning wintery shade, and I loved watching the nails go under the light shiny and come out completely matte after curing, it was like magic!

Another thing to note is the relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of all the staff members I came into contact with.  Everyone was relaxed despite the fast paced nature of life outside the salon in the domestic arrivals area, and they were all so warm and helpful.  Truly what you need when you’re rushing to fit in a quick treatment, or have some extra time to kill.

Yemaya Hair & Beauty is opposite Woolworths at King Shaka International Airport.

It’s this friendly and warm demeanor that ensures customers come back time and time again, even when they’re not necessarily in the airport for travel purposes.  Yep – customers can enjoy the Yemaya Hair & Beauty treatments even if they’re not travelling or collecting travellers!  The fact that they work Monday through Sunday from 5am until 10pm means that even if you aren’t travelling, if you need an urgent appointment, you can most probably find it there!

How lovely are these Moroccanoil combo packs?

Overall, I will most definitely be making a return to Yemaya Hair & Beauty, as it’s amazing offering of treatments and quality brands, and it’s convenience factor when at the airport is amazing.  I can see why customers come back to the airport just for treatments!

I am DYING to try some of the Label M haircare, and the packaging is beautiful!

Whether it be a blow dry on the way to a last minute business trip, a manicure to ensure your nails look perfect for that wedding you’re attending, a quick Brazilian wax for the romantic weekend away that you never had time for, or full body Swedish massage for the nervous flyer, there is a treatment to suit everyone at Yemaya Hair & Beauty.

The Yemaya team also very kindly gifted me with a Footlogix DD Cream Mousse – a rich mousse that nourishes dry, cracked skin and locks moisture into the skin.  The mousse is for use on the whole body, but it’s fab for winter feet, and something I’m putting truly to the test, as I’m applying it morning and night to see if it’ll help keep my feet soft and smooth.  So far, it doesn’t leave a greasy layer on the skin, it absorbs super fast, and feels nice and rich, yet still very lightweight.

Here’s a photo of my toes a week later – still looking beautiful and fresh, and my feet still feel sandal ready, even in our winter weather:
