TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

Tiger’s Milk, Suncoast

If you’re based here in Durban like me, I’m sure you know that Tiger’s Milk recently opened at Suncoast.  I attended their official media launch and was very excited – their food seemed to be varied and delicious, and the vibe was wonderful.  Hubby and I were already planning many return trips after that one night!

TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

This month we headed back for lunch on a Sunday afternoon.  We’d seen the restaurant at night, but was is it like during the day?

It was FULL!  So busy, with Durbanites checking out the latest restaurant in town.  The vibe was wonderful, relaxed but still some great music playing and lots of chatter and laughter.

DRINKS

We ordered a couple of their signature cocktails to start off with – the Royal Rum Punch (Bacardi Carta Blanca, Mango, Rooibos, Lemon, Bitters, Mint R60) for Hubs and the Thyme To Fig Out (Bombay Sapphire, Fig, Thyme, Lemon, Pongracz R65) for me.

THYME TO FIG OUT - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

The Royal Rum Punch was absolutely delicious, refreshing and fruity – a total winner!  The Thyme To Fig Out was also very tasty – lemony, not too sweet and the thyme gave it a slight savoury note, however I couldn’t taste any fig whatsoever.  Perhaps a slice of fresh fig or a freeze-dried fig would help?

Halfway through our meal we decided to try some of their house beers.  Nick opted for the Tiger’s Milk Lager (350ml R30) and I tried the Part Wolf Lite (350ml R32) and both were great, I highly recommend them.

FOOD

PARTY PARCELS - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

We are jalapeño popper obsessed, so it was a given that we’d order some of the Party Parcels (jalapeños filled with cream cheese and bacon, beer battered and served with enchilada sauce R48).  These were INCREDIBLE, and served with that sauce, I could totally have just ordered another portion of these as a main.

The Amazeballs (3 cheeses and chives in crispy shredded pastry with a chipotle aioli dip R69) are also delicious.  Super crunchy pastry filled with creamy melted cheese.  Amazing as a starter or just a bar snack if you’re there for drinks and want something to nibble on!

THREE LITTLE PIGGIES PIZZA - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

For mains, Hubby ordered a Three Little Piggies pizza (bacon, pepperoni and chorizo R138) and it was super tasty, a total meat-lovers heaven.  I enjoyed it, however I think their Saucy Mexican (spicy mince, chipotle sour cream, jalapeños, pico de gallo, avo, coriander R138) that we tasted at the launch was even better – that’s a pizza I’d most definitely order again and again.

MAC ATTACK BURGER - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

I am mac n cheese OBSESSED.  It’s my ultimate comfort food, so when I saw there was a Mac Attack burger (beef patty, mature cheddar, cheese sauce, mac n cheese bacon patty R129) I gave a little squeal.  And guys – this burger was LIFE CHANGING.  Crunchy mac and cheese patty on top of the most perfectly cooked beef patty, extra cheese sauce and all the regular burger garnishes.  It was enormous and I only managed half of it (but trust me – I took the rest home and snacked on it later on that night).  I got right up in there and ate this with my hands, and it was messy but so good.  I’m already craving another one!

MAC N CHEESE SIDE - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

Now, I know this is just a side.  And I know it’s MORE mac n cheese.  But like I said, I’m crazy for this cheesy pasta!  I’ve never found it anywhere in Durban as a side dish, so I had to have it.  It was so delicious, creamy with lots of cheesy pull to it.

CHEESECAKE - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

We had planned on just sharing a single dessert, but one of the managers convinced us that we absolutely had to try both the Cheesecake (berry coulis, vanilla crumble and vanilla bean ice cream R85) and the Bread and Butter Pudding (baked in cinnamon-vanilla custard, raisins, apricot jam, toasted almond flakes and vanilla bean ice cream R65).

The Cheesecake is baked (I prefer baked to fridge) and super creamy and smooth.  I loved the deconstructed look, with the crust crumbled up separately too.  Absolutely delicious!

BREAD AND BUTTER PUDDING - TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

The Bread and Butter Pudding was a game changer though.  Both Hubs and I were wowed!  It was hot and creamy and decadent, and the vanilla ice cream melting into it was sublime.  It was SO good in fact, that Hubs barely shared any of it with me, and scoffed it down so fast that I felt like he was having some sort of affair.

Let’s just say, that we’ll probably be back for a dessert date for this pudding alone.  It is phenomenal!

TIGERS MILK SUNCOAST

Overall, the food was absolutely scrumptious at Tiger’s Milk.  We really want to head back with some friends and enjoy a dinner and some drinks with them there.  They often have live music and they host quiz nights – in November they’re even hosting a Harry Potter one and you will DEFINITELY see me there!
